JACK THE RIPPER

It’s a dark night in a deserted alley in London. A cold wind blows in your face making your eyes water and your nose run. You are all alone but can’t shake the feeling someone’s watching you. Somewhere in the darkness you hear a shoveling sound. Is it the wind or can you actually see something move in the shadows? Is that laughter or just the howling of the wind?

In 1888, the East End of London was the scene of a number of gruesome murders attributed to a killer known as Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper is one of the most famous cases of unsolved murders in the history of British crime. At least five murders of prostitutes have been attributed to Jack the Ripper, but there may be more. Most of the victims were killed while soliciting customers on the street. The women had been mutilated and their throats cut.

Today, the case of Jack the Ripper is still unsolved despite the numerous books written on the topic and many investigations each suggesting a different culprit. Through the years the story has continued to appeal to people’s imagination and it has inspired many works of fiction as well as movies. There are theories suggesting conspiracies; it was also believed that the killer had to have some knowledge of the medical profession in order to remove their organs. In fact, it was even suggested the murders could be traced to the Royal Family!
